Summer 2022 marking and grading
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, outcomes from CCEA exams will be higher than those of pre-pandemic years. This approach has been broadly adopted by other regulators in the UK.

Your school will let you know how you will receive your results. This may be by post, in school or online.
Understanding your results
The Provisional Statement of Results will look slightly different this year. To support you with this, we have developed new information guides which will also be available from your school:
What if you have a query about your results?
If you have a query or you think the results you received are not correct, don’t worry – there are things you can do. We strongly encourage you to speak with your school, who are best placed to advise on opportunities open to you.
Post-Results Services
You can request a review of the marking of your examination paper by a Senior Examiner if you think there has been an error. First talk to your school or college, as they will help you decide the best course of action. If you then decide to seek a review of your results, they will make an application to CCEA’s Post-Results Service on your behalf. Note that a review could mean your results go down, go up or stay the same.
Priority review service: CCEA offers a priority review service for those students who have a higher education place dependent on the outcome of a review of marking. In these instances, students should also inform their first-choice university or other provider that they have applied for a review. This will enable the university or provider to decide how to handle their offer.
For more information on CCEA’s Post-Results Services, including timelines, fees and the priority review service, see CCEA Post Results Services June 2022 Summary Document.
Resits
Retaking your qualifications could be an option. Just be certain that it is the route you want to take, and think about whether it would benefit your planned next steps. Your teachers will advise you on this decision.
CCEA will provide:
- an Autumn 2022 exams series for GCSE sciences, GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics; and
- a March 2023 exams series for GCSE sciences.
Alternative routes
There are lots of other opportunities available to support your next steps. You may want to consider technical and other professional qualifications, Higher Level Apprenticeships or foundation degrees at your local college or school.
